BIG BOOI!!

So I was in the gym today doing some gut busters and I noted that there were alot of kids in the gym. What worried me was that some of these kids were chunky and they were about 10-12 years old.

Last week I saw a woman take her kids to the gym and pay a personal trainer to get them to loose weight. Em lady...if you want your kid to loose weight STOP TAKING THEM TO MACDONALDS!! It angers me to see rich people throw money at the problem. The problem is at home. You need to start a life style for your kids and it starts in the kitchen.

In my house we had treats for good behavior or special occasions (wow I make it sound like I was brought up as a hound...I certainly ate like one). I've seen some people's fridges were the healthiest thing in it was peanut butter, sweets were the order of the day and junk food was supplemented with ice cream
(ok I do Love ice cream).

We grew up playing outside playing garden cricket/soccer, basketball, name it we played it, and thats how you get your kids to loose weight or maintain a healthy lifestyle. get them to be kids!

Playstation doesn't ruin kids health, a lack of management from parents does. kids are just being kids you have to guide them. I like Nintento's new out look on wellness with their active games. Wii's interactive gaming has certainly got the market buzzing! 10000 points to them!

Eat or Be Eaten

Part of healthy living is healthy eating. I think 90% of wellness is what you eat! yes I said it, you are what you eat.

Eat crap and you will look crap. I'm fortunate to live in a home where healthy eating is the order of the day, however my family hasn't taken to the concept of 6 meals a day. I have two growing brothers, we would eat our parents out of house and home (we do it anyway). so in order to reach the goal of 6 meals, i started taking supplements.

so I did some research into supplementation. A lot of people stay away from supplements due to the stigma associated with it. Supplements are laced with steroids. I don't blame people for thinking this way. The name of some of these supplements certainly don't make me feel comfortable, Animal Stack, Hardcore Anabolic Pump. I don't know about you but there is no animal stack happening here, i don't want to change my genetic composition and certainly don't want to alter any appendages (he he)!

So how do you know what to take? Have you been to a pharmacy lately? There are thousands of choices, and it doesn't help that the "assistant" there funnels you to a product that earns him high commission. I wish there was a way of grading these supplements, the way ant virus is graded by third party sites, so that the average Joe can see whats best for him. Also people need to be profiled. If you are a skinny guy who wants to get big, you will take different supplements to a guy that is big and whats to loose weight.

There is one thing you must know; good supplements are not cheap, and you get what you pay for. USN is the cheapest in the market, and there is a reason why. speak to your trainer or any professional athlete, they usually don't have good things to say about it, BUT its cheap! On the other side of the scale you get Weider thats a little expensive and very good (they are big on drug free supplements) I highly recommend that if you want to take supplements, RESEARCH!!!!!! The more you know the better, and don't listen to the clowns in the pharmacy, they couldn't give a damn about what you want.

click on the following link, it ranks supplements in terms of the sales and user retention: http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/listingtop.htm

I believe in supplements, they certainly do aid you in achieving your goals, but don't go buck wild with them. I actually landed up in hospital because I used a local brand and did little research on them. Tough and painful lesson to learn but really there is nothing wrong with taking your time and being patient. leave the horse hormones for the low lives!

Im starting to consider testing Optimum Nutrition..watch this space!

Off the Rails

Ok so I been a bad boy!

I lost track of my goal, and now I feel crap about it. It was my choice at the end of the day so I'm to blame.

on a lighter note I actually lost 12Kg!!! I look so much better, I feel stronger but once in a while I'll do some thing silly that will take me a step back, ie. have more than one cheat day a week.

I can guarantee that if you eat healthy and work out, you will see changes within 3 months, but what you put in is what you get out. I dont think I got where I wanted to get to but thats because I would get lazy at times, also be aware what supplements you are taking. the ones I was taking were KAK!!!

Cheat days are cool, its like a day for rewarding you for your hard wortk, but if you are over celebrating then your goal takes a back seat.

Changing my lifestyle has had a great influence in my life over the past three months. Endorphans become addictive and the "feel Good" drug starts change the way you look at day to day tasks and life in general.

so no excuses. I'm back on track and looking forward to getting back to the HOUSE OF PAIN!!!!

HERO #1

Im going to start posting success stories on my Blog. I think its vital to use every day heros as motivation to achieve your own goals. You know what they say, if you want to learn how to make bread hang out with a baker if you want to become a millionaire hang out with Donald Trump.

If there is one person I have to take my hat off to, its my brother. He is my daily motivation. As kids I have always been bigger and stronger than him. About a year ago, he decided to take gym seriously. He was skinny and struggled with very light weights.

Em ….not any more. I watch what I say around him now because this dude is STRONG!! No I don’t think you understand. This guys is bloody Strong, and he looks like a Mens Health Model!!!!

I’m loosing wrestling matches, I’m getting bullied, and I think I lost Alpha male status at home and I'm almost certain my lady friends are starting to check him out!!

I have been watching my brother pretty closely and clearly it all starts up stairs. If your head isn’t in the right place, you goals are impossible to achieve.
It all starts with DESIRE, and he has oodles of it. He sees his goal every day, he doesn’t make excuses, he eats very well and most importantly my brother has discipline. I cant explain how proud I am of this dude. He has proved to me that those who attempt the absurd achieve the impossible.

Burn After Reading

I have been researching the best ways to lose body fat and here is the big secret exposed......wait for it....brace yourself because you wont see this coming.

Sprinting.

Yes run your ass off, literally. You need to Bolt like Usain if you want to see fast changes. It doesn't only have to be sprinting,it can be spinning or any other high intensity cardio work out will do. Think about it, if you are in need of energy during an intense work out, your body attacks the fat cells, the harder you work out the more energy required. Within a few weeks you will see the fat melt away! Be careful not to over do it, you are prone to injury with intense work outs.

If your goal is to get a 6 pack then sprinting is mandatory! Ever seen a sprinter with a beer belly? They all have 6 packs, in fact most sports men that sprint have hectic abs: Basketball players, soccer players, sprinters, rugby players (back line, yet to see a prop with a 6pack)

The problem with our society is that people want quick fixes, they are willing to take short cuts to achieve their goals. exercise patients dammit!!! Short cuts will get you cut short.

There are some nutrition companies that make powerful fat burners that are loaded with stimulants like ephedrine and caffeine that make your heart race and leave you struggling to sleep at night. They work, BUT this certainly isn't good for your body. Here is a list of some side effects:

* High Blood Pressure
* Headaches
* Insomnia
* Anxiety
* Dizziness
* Blurred Vision
* Stroke
* Diarthea

em.....how about no, I would much rather run and deal with the aching muscles (as I'm currently doing)

MAX - OT

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's what you want to do when doing Max - OT (maximum overload training)! Scream your lungs out and burst a blood vessel.

I came across this new concept two days ago, its very interesting and is possibly the best way to intensify your workout.

It works as follows:

You exercise using very heavy weights at very low repetitions with some rest between the sets. But I'm talking about HEAVY weights (close to your one rep Max), the type that make you cry for mom or change your religion.

So I tried it last night. Possibly the best work out of my life. I can feel that I had an intense workout. oh and a word of advice, go to the toilet before your workout because you might just crap yourself!!

It consists of doing 4-6 repetitions per set, and doing 6-9 sets with 2-3 minutes rest between each set for eight to ten week cycles followed by a week of rest. A workout session usually lasts 30 to 45 minutes. By the end of the workout you'll need a good protein shake and a hug.

check out the Video

I recommend two months of normal training before attempting this, its REAL!!

GET SOME!!!

A Winner never Quits!!

The body does what the mind tells it. So if your heads not right chances are you body isn’t either! What’s the remedy to this problem…Affirmations!

Affirmations are the things you say to yourself on a daily basis, and what you say today effects tomorrow! If you think negatively then you are negative in all you do, but if you think positively… wow the world suddenly works in your favor.

I think its important to talk to your self during workouts and during the day. You know that little voice you hear, its actually you, and you have to control what that little fella says because he/she makes a big impact on your daily activities.

I have a few things I say to myself when I work out. It pushes me to work harder at achieving my goals. Here are a few of them:

• A winner Never Quits (I repeat this every day every hour)
• THIS IS EASY!! (when lifting heavy weights)
• Never Give up ( when the tough gets going)
• Im Healthy and Wealthy!
• Im great

This might seem lame to some people but if you say these things often enough you will start believing in them. The body achieves what the mind believes. It also helps to follow people who have achieved greatness through affirmations, like Muhammed Ali.

The Grand Master Jedi of affirmations. He spoke so much out load during workouts and believed everything he said too. At some point his opponents started believing he was greater than them too. He won the battle before going to war. The mind is a wonderful yet powerful tool that we underutilize!

Take a look at the following video of Ronnie Coleman: Mr Olympia for 8 consecutive years. Now this guy is way buffer than what I ever want to be but you have to love his work ethic, and mind power tactics.! On a tour to Australia he was quotes as saying “I don’t like this place, the weights are too light”

But that’s Ronnie for you. Every day is light weights day. " YEAH BUDDY!! Nothin But a Peanut!!!"

The Play List!

Ever been in a fitness club where they play rave music at 5am in the morning and it never stops until they close. I once had lunch at the gym with a friend, BIG MISTAKE! I ended up eating faster than the spin class was cycling!

I have my own play list that I use on every work out. I think that it is important to play music that get you going. I find that dance music does it well for me. I tend to find myself doing a booty shake during my 30 second rest periods….that’s my cardio session incorporated in my workout. By the time my 12weeks are done il look great and dance even better.

Below is the list of the tracks I play when I’m working out or even going out for a jog around the block. Some of these are classics!

1) Gonna fly now -Bill Conti - Theme from Rocky -this is a must have for health junkie

2) If I Ever Feel Better -Phoenix …..SICK Love this song puts me in such a good mood.

3) Empire of The Sun - Walking on a Dream – this song makes me happy every time I hear it

4) Eye of the Tiger- Rocky Theme – CLASSIC!!! I chase AMG’s when I hear this, its that inpiring

5) Kid Cudi - Make Her Say (feat. Kanye West & Common)

6) UMI Says – Mos Def – this song has been my motivation since I was 16

7) Kid Kudi vs Crookers - Day 'n' Night (Crookers Remix).

8) Brooklyn we go hard – Jay Z

9) Nas Is Like – NAS

10) Flowers - Armand Van Heldon – ROMANTIC…in the gym

Cool down

11) Bob Marley & The Wailers - Stir It Up

12) Bob Marley & The Wailers - Waiting in Vain

13) Yellow – Cold Play

The important thing is to make sure you don’t have any negative music. Happy music about love or fun does it for me, at the end of the day you have to enjoy your work out and music certainly makes things FUN

What’s your play list?
